As I do most everyday, I was wearing my LuuLay hooded long sleeve while I was out and about running errands (also, today I was wearing Harriet Hymenoptera, the wasp!)
I was at a local retailer purchasing a new hair brush and when I got to the checkout to pay for said brush, the cashier looked at me and asked “So, what does your shirt mean?”
She had a perplexed look on her face, and also a smile.
I smiled at her and, kind of not sure what to say (as I wear a lot of graphic tees and forget which one I am wearing at any given time), looked down at my shirt and said “Oh, her?”
The cashier responded “Yeah, what does it mean?”
You know, for once I was actually at a loss for words. What does it mean? I never really had a philosophical conversation about The Entophilezzz! because there isn’t much to get, at least, I don’t think. They’re winged creatures wearing boots that look……….sexy, fun, stylish, playful. Call me simple, but that’s all I ever thought about it. However, in a consumer world, we purchase things that mean something to us. Whatever we buy, it either has to be useful, meaningful, fun, logical, needed, wanted, or just really friggen cool. But yeah, Harriet…..the meaning. Hmmm……
I smiled at the cashier and said to her “it means fun” and, to her, that answer seemed acceptable. She nodded and giggled and it was if a light bulb went off over her head. Ah, FUN!
When the CM and I started this business, all we ever really thought about was fun. Sure, there were some other ideas in there, like which shirts to use, how to imprint, how do we make these characters look and so on. But the bottom line is (and this is on our about page, too) we believe in fun.
Call it a cliche, but no lie, LuuLay started as two completely incongruous ideas that we somehow found a way to make congruent and thought graphic t-shirts and apparel were a good medium for our ideas. And all we ever wanted to do with said ideas was have fun.
So, what does it mean?
I believe the answer is relative, but yeah, fun is good to me.
