We’ve been planning for a new luulay.com for a long time now, so we’ve been really quiet on the blog front. However, we often like to tweet, so you should follow us on our Twitter page and see what we’re up to.

This weekend we’ll be at the Stormville Flea Market for the 2nd time this season. And of course we’re excited because it’s always a GREAT event. We meet lots of cool people and you get to meet us and check out our wears.

We should be getting new Annie Arachnida hoodies for this event and, yes, we will be offering them on the website SOON so, once that gets launched, you’ll be able to purchase your own (because, really, Annie is AWESOME!)

Oof! We totally haven’t updated our blog in a loooooong time. It’s because we’ve been so buzzzzy! doing new things for our NEW website, NEW shirts, NEW characters, NEW interactive things….and, well, it’s a lot of NEW stuff.

A long awaited post is coming soon, this we can promise. For now, now that we’ve been in the chrysalis, slowly changing for all the NEWNESS that is coming to luulay.com!

Hudson Valley Horrors Roller Derby!

If you’ve experienced luulay.com, then you know we’re fans of The Hudson Valley Horrors, the world’s FIRST non-urban flat track roller derby team. After all, a few of them are our gorgeous models! I bet you didn’t know that myself, along with Peter of LuuLay are members of HVHRD. Surprise, right?!

I’d like to take a moment to let you know of HVHRD’s first home bout which is coming up on May 16th. PLEASE come and support us. We promise it will be a great bout, not to mention it’s ROLLER DERBY and roller derby is the kind of fun you just can’t get anywhere. So, go over to this linky-link and purchase yourself a ticket. Tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day! Many participating comic book shops will be giving away FREE comics! Yes, FREE COMICS. Free. F-R-E-E.

We (myself and our creative director, Peter Pasquerello — also the artist behind all of The Entophilezzz! designs) will be at The Dragon’s Den in Poughkeepsie from 12-2, giving away some prints and selling our loot! Come out and meet us, get some cool prints and see what we’re all about. Also, get your FREE comics from the Den. Doors open at 10. Supplies are limited, so you better get there early!

And if this blog post wasn’t enough of a reminder, here is Hugh Jackman giving his own $.02 — including the trailer for the new X-Men movie (wee! so excited!)

Earth Day at LuuLay

It should come as no surprise that we here at LuuLay are fans of the environment. And yes, we like bugs (although one can assume that was obvious given the nature of our designs). Because it’s Earth Day and because we like bugs, here are some planet-friendly tips involving our many-legged friends (or foes, however you want to look at it) to celebrate a day that should be recognized EVERY day.

Orange Peel

The zest of an orange is not only delicious in many recipes, it’s actually a natural, toxic-free insect repellent. No lie! Keep some peels handy after stuffing your face with that vitamin C-packed fruit (but not too long, you need the oils here!) and rub it on your skin. The bugs will stay away — promise! What’s better is you won’t smell like a chemical plant. In fact, you’ll smell downright delicious — but NOT to the bugs!

Praying Mantis

Madeline Mantodea is good for other things besides biting the heads off her male counterparts. The praying mantis is a fantastic predator for your garden to keep those would-be pests at bay. Believe it or not, you can purchase praying mantis eggs on the internet and put them in your garden yourself. In fact, the mantis is an extremely territorial insect, so it WILL stay where it hatches. The winning situation is your garden is chemical-free and full of really beautiful insects. Also, spiders are good for this, too. They’re just not as aggressive as the mantis.

Butterfly Garden!

Nothing brings a smile to your face quite like dancing butterflies. Oh, come on — they do! Why not pretty up your property by planting some easy-to-care-for perennials for your winged friends? It’s high time for butterfly migration and those monarchs and swallowtails will be very thirsty! You’ll not only add to the beauty of the environment with all of those gorgeous flowers, but you’ll give some much needed nutrition for a traveling beauty.

Mulch

Mulch is a great space for spiders to hide in your garden, thus providing a chemical-free way to rid your garden of pests. Also, mulch is fabulous for retaining moisture, so mulch it up!

Attract Beneficial Buggies to Your Garden

Bees, butterflies, ladybugs and a few others are the kinds of buggies you want hanging around your garden. Why? They keep the bad ones that could serve as a detriment to your garden away. There is a great article over at Mother Earth’s Garden that offers up some advice on how to get the good ones to come.

And if bugs are just really annoying you and you want a completely bug-free garden, here is a totally toxic-free insect repellent that is completely Earth-friendly!

1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tsp chili powder
1 tbsp natural dishwashing soap (We are fans of Seventh Generation’s lemongrass and clementine zest!)
1/2 cup water

Shake the mixture well, add to a spray bottle, and spray the plants that are getting attacked.

Our Youngest Model!

There is nothing better than seeing a pic of your youngest fan looking smashing in one of your tees. How adorable is our little model, Jaden in this pic? I think Adalaide looks great on her and she’s a natural born model at four years old!

Thanks to her mommy for snapping a pic and letting us post it here on the WEBlog! I see a future in modeling for this cutie!
